What is GLA:D?
GLA:D or Good Life with Arthritis : Denmark is an exercise and education program developed by researchers in Denmark for people living with hip and knee osteoarthritis symptoms. The GLA:D team brought their program to Australia in 2016 training practitioners across the country to deliver the program to the community. Now being used in 10 countries the GLA:D practitioners continue to gather data, contributing to ongoing research. GLA:D uses supervised group exercise and education sessions to help you with daily activities. You will work on strengthening your body, as well as learning to move correctly and manage symptoms to improve pain. |
Who is the GLA:D program for?
The GLA:D program is for everyone who experiences symptoms from hip or knee osteoarthritis regardless of the severity. You do not need a referral, however we will accept Medicare referrals for your GP. Such referrals allow rebates on the 1:1 sessions with your exercise physiologist. Did you know that Osteoarthritis is the most common lifestyle disease in individuals 65 years and old, however it can occur in people as young as 30 years of age. In Australia treatment usually focuses on medication and surgery. The GLA:D program offers a safe alternative that may reduce your need for medications, avoid the need for surgery and improve your ability to participate more actively in work and recreational activities. |
